Sequel to the game of musical chairs, loss of confidence and mutual suspicion alleged to be pervading the Imo state House of Assembly, which was before now described as an appendage of the executive arm, there are indications that there is presently a plot to suspend more lawmakers including Hon Solomon Anukam, who represents Owerri Municipal Council in the Imo State House Assembly.

Hon Solomon Anukam is said to have incurred the wrath of the leadership of the house and some of his colleagues for reportedly saying at a recent function that the only Governor he knows is Chief Emeka Ihedioha.

This according to a House of Assembly source, “enraged the lawmakers loyal to Governor Uzodinma and all efforts made to compel him to retract the statement fell on deaf ears. Hence, just like in the case of the lawmakers who were suspended for allegedly attending the burial ceremony  of Uche Nwosu’s mother they are planning to suspend Hon Solomon Anokam for making such statement which they consider a display of disloyalty to Governor Uzodinma.”

It was also gathered that, aside Hon Solomon Anokam there are other lawmakers whose loyalties are in doubt or suspected not be sufficiently loyal to the governor may also be suspended.

However, the defection of Hon Obinna Okwara, a two term lawmaker for Nkwerre State Constituency in the house of assembly from the ruling All Progressive Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party and speculations that more lawmakers have concluded plans to defect to other political parties soon is said to have rattled and sent jitters down the executive which didn’t expect such development which would give APC minority status in the assembly.

According to a source in the House of Assembly,  “ more lawmakers have concluded plans to defect to other parties on the grounds of high handedness, blackmail of colleagues and deliberate plot to impoverish and make them dependent on the executive arm of government.”

As at the time of filling this report, it was not clear how many lawmakers would defect next week as speculated.

It would be recalled that Hon Obinna Okwara was originally elected on the platform of Action Alliance (AA) before he defected to the APC from where he has now joined the PDP.
