A political icon in Nkwerre local government area of Imo state, Nze GMT Maduagwu has decried the continued suspension of the member representing Nkwerre state constituency in the Imo state house of assembly, Hon Obinna Okwarra and called on the leadership of the house to urgently look into the matter with a view to recalling the lawmaker and his other suspended colleagues.

Chief Maduagwu who stated this while interacting with newsmen recently expressed displeasure at how the mandate that Nkwerre people collectively gave to their son is being trampled on and sacrificed on the altar of political intrigues, selfish interests and manipulations.

He noted that, “a situation where the people of Nkwerre LGA are denied their constitutional right to effective representation in the house of assembly is entirely unacceptable.”

He further noted that, “this is an aberration and an atrocity against the people of Nkwerre LGA. I therefore call on all sons and daughters of the area to rise up and demand an end to this unjust treatment which is not in our collective interest.”

Nze Maduagwu, a successful business man and notable opinion leader stated that it is unlawful and unfair to throw the entire citizens of Nkwerre LGA with about 200,000 Constituents into Legislative darkness, thus denying them their fundamental legislative participation in the hallowed Chamber.

According to him, “it is unthinkable to say that Nkwerre LGA will be blind in the legislative business of Imo State House of Assembly because as it is now, nobody is there to protect our interests.”

On the issue of inviting the Lawmakers to interface with the Adhoc committee, set up by the house, Chief GMT informed that he has read where the law makers denied being invited and wondered why Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi, member representing Owerri West LGA would want to play politics with the interest of Nkwerre LGA pointing out that, Hon. Obinna Okwara, member representing Nkwerre LGA made it public that no such invitation was extended to him.

Chief GMT called for the amendment of Assembly rules in other to protect the Constituents from ugly situations like this because it is not acceptable to throw a whole LGA into oblivion because of political Party interest. At that level, we should be talking about governance, not politics. Hon. Obinna Okwara is the member representing Nkwerre State Constituency, not a particular political party,” he added.

On the impact of the suspension, Akaraka Nkwerre informed that it is enormous because the damages are immeasurable. “No responsible Government should watch her citizens being subjected to such ugly situation because it amounts to de-marketing the government and the party in power.”
