Describes him as highly incompetent

A human rights and advocacy group known as Imolites for Good Governance Group IGG has called for the immediate sack of the Anambra State born Acting Chairman of Imo Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) on the grounds of incompetence and the numerous reported cases of sharp practices, which have created roon for unwholesome behaviour of staff of the agency which include; rape, sexual harassment of married female staff of the agency among others.

The President of IGG, Comrade Chukwuemeka Udochukwu disclosed this while speaking at an enlarged executive meeting of the human rights group held in Owerri yesterday.

Comrade Udochukwu said, “the Acting Chairman of IIRS, Dr Ifeanyi Okeke has shown from his actions, inaction and the reprehensible conduct and actions of staff of IIRS under his watch, that he is grossly incompetent to preside over the affairs of a government outfit of such magnitude that is saddled with the responsibility of overseeing the collection of internally generated revenue.

He said, “it is only in Imo State where merit has been thrown to the dogs that a person like Dr Ifeanyi Okeke who, by virtue of his antecedents and track record, is not even fit to be entrusted with the job and responsibilities of a cashier would be allowed to function as the boss of IIRS. His tenure as chairman of IIRS has recorded the worst kind of controversy, negative inclination and alleged repugnant and reprehensible activities, making him the worst Chief Executive Officer in the history of the agency, right from when it was known as the Board of Internal Revenue”.

He called on the state Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma to as a matter of urgency, relieve him of his job, if he really means well for the state and her people, adding that anything short of that will give credence to speculations in different quarters that Okeke was deliberately kept there for  selfish purpose and to enrich few persons in the corridors of power at different levels, who are bent on squandering the common wealth of suffering Imo people.

The group expressed regret that despite all the reported cases of atrocious activities at the IIRS, under Dr Ifeanyi Okeke’s watch, the governor has kept sealed lips as if nothing is happening.

This, the group said has emboldened the IIRS boss who, aside other acts of vendetta has been plotting how to unleash havoc on some bold and courageous newspaper outfits who have refused to compromise or shy away from highlighting and bringing to the public domain the alleged nefarious activities of the management and staff of IIRS, with a view to shutting them down to scare and serve as a deterrent to others.
