Imolites Call For His Impeachment

Chike Olemgbe, the speaker of Imo state House of Assembly, is currently under heavy criticism by members of the public after himself alongside other 24 APC lawmakers at the 10th Assembly, openly adopted Governor Hope Uzodinma’s second term bid and agreed to mobilize support for his reelection come November 11.

The Assembly, on Tuesday, during its second plenary after inauguration on the 16th of June,2023, gave an accelerated hearing to a motion seeking to adopt the APC governorship candidate as the sole contender in forthcoming election.

James Uba Esile of Onuimo state constituency while moving the motion said that the governor has performed beyond expectations within the three and half years of his administration hence, deserves a reelection.

Esile said Uzodinma’s reelection will open up vista for more infrastructural development in the state.

Hear him, “whereas His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma has turned the fortunes Imo state around by rebuilding dilapitated and demolished projects of the last administrations, such as Eke-Ukwu market, Imo International and Convention Centre (IICC), the reconstruction of Owerri-Orlu/Owerri/Okigwe roads, controlling of flood menace using the balloon technology among other things.

“Noting that Imo people have breathed fresh air from the Uzodinma’s administration through these giant strides within the shortest possible period.

“Be it resolved that this honourable House formally adopt His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma as the sole candidate for the November 11  Imo governorship election.

“Be it further resolved that members of this honourable House be mandated to galvanize support for his (Uzodinma) reelection across the 27 state constituencies, through grassroots mobilisation and campaign.”

The House also urged governorship candidates from other political parties to throw in the towel and support the governor whom, they boasted, has done in three and half years what his predecessors put together could not do during their time.

Meanwhile, the Imo state PDP governorship candidate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has described the move by the new members of the 10th a clear story of piper dictating the tone.

The guber candidate who spoke through his Media Aide, Ikenna Onuoha, said Imo people should be expecting little or nothing from the new set of Assembly members because, according to him, they are all stooges assigned to play the script of their principal who is the governor.

“The members, in the first instance, did not win any election. They were foisted on their various constituencies by the rigging magician of a governor, Hope Uzodinma, and now they have to reciprocate the gesture.

“To me, their action is not surprising because already Imo people know that they don’t have any House of Assembly running in the state. What we have is an assemblage of Uzodinma’s stooges who were illegally imposed on Imo people as their lawmakers.

“Imagine where you have 25 out of the 27 APC members in the House. No minority. Then, who is going to checkmate the leadership of the House. Frankly, Imo is dead under Hope Uzodinma.

“To react to the call on Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, the only nightmare of the APC, to step down for a man who has raped democracy and freedom of the people by making the state an insecurity hub of the country, must be the biggest joke of the year. Senator Samuel Anyanwu is a political giant and cannot be intimidated by anybody.

An artisan in the state who pleaded anonymity regretted that the current Assembly does not have a corresponding minority group as to talk about the speaker’s impeachment. He insisted that the speaker and other members of the Assembly have committed a legislative offense by forgetting that the legislative arm of government, like the judiciary, is an independent body whose main job is it to make laws that will affect their people positively.

“However, since there is no minority group in the House to remove the so-called speaker and all that are involved in charade, we the concerned Imo people will continue to hunt them and shout at the top of our voice till the right thing is done.”

Other Imo people who spoke to our reporter called for the speaker’s immediate impeachment for committing such a legislative blunder.
