In his bid to attract urgent infrastructural intervention to his constituency, the House of Representatives Wednesday adopted the motion by the member representing Ideato Federal Constituency at the Green Chambers, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu, to rehabilitate the Akokwa-Umuchima-Mgbee-Orlu federal road.

Hon. Ugochinyere had moved a motion for the urgent need for the rehabilitation of the Akokwa-Umuchima-Mgbee-Orlu Federal Road and the Mgbe-Umuezeala-Ogboko bridge in Ideato South council area.

He prayed the House to resolve to urge FERMA, NDDC, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Federal Ministry of Environment, and the Ecological Fund Office, to embark on thorough repair, reconstruction, and remedial works on the afore-mentioned roads. He also prayed the house to urge the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, National Emergency Management Agency, to immediately provide relief materials to the people of Ideato South LGA. Ikenga Ugochinyere further urged the House to mandate the House committee on Works to ensure compliance.

Leading debate on the motion, Ugochinyere argued that the Mgbee-Umuezeala-Ogboko bypass in Ideato South LGA is a makeshift road carved out by the residents as a result of the total collapse of the Akokwa-Umuchima-Mgbee-Orlu federal road which connects Ideato to other parts of Imo state.

The lawmaker expressed concern that the Mgbee-Umuezeala-Ogboko bypass is the only route that lead to Ideato South LGA after the failure of the Akokwa-Umuchima-Mgbee-Orlu federal road, as such the people of Ideato South are literally cut off from other parts of the state.

Hon. Ugochinyere added that due to the incident of ravaging gully erosion, the Mgbee-Umuezeala-Ogboko bypass and all the houses and landed properties situated within the precinct of the road have been completely washed off by erosion and many indigenous homes and families have been displaced from their ancestral homes.
