Following the ousting of the former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon Kennedy Ibeh who was re-elected for a third tenure on the platform of the All Progressive Congress APC by the Imo State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal and the declaration of Labour Party candidate, Princess Nkechi Anyanwu Mbachu, winner of the Obowo State constituency seat in the March, 18, 2023 House of Assembly election, there has been ecstatic jubilation in the entire local government area.

The Imo State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Mararaba, Nasarawa State in its judgment on Monday, held that the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC erred by declaring the candidate of the APC, Kennedy Ibeh, winner of the election, which in its well considered opinion, was won by the Labour Party candidate, Princess Nkechi Anyanwu-Mbachu.

The judgment, which according to many indigenes of the area, reflects the wishes and aspirations of the electorate. They also applauded Governor Hope Uzodinma for not interfering in the affairs of the judiciary, justice, equity and fairness as remarkable.

A group known as Imo Women For Social Advancement, has called on the opponents of Princess Nkechi Anyanwu Mbachu to accept the verdict of the tribunal with the spirit of sportsmanship.

They described the Labour Party candidate’s victory as victory for Imo women adding that Princess Anyanwu will stand out as the only female legislator in the 10th Imo Assembly.

In the same vein, the Obowo Local Government Area Chapter of Labour Party has commended the tribunal for dispensing justice wisely and equitably, stressing that the verdict is in line with the collective wish of the people as expressed through the ballot box.

They further urged candidates of the other political parties to close ranks and work for the peace, progress and development of Obowo Local Government Area.
