–      Want Governor  To Curtail Excesses Of Ebubeagu, Security Agents

–      Call For Judicial Panel Of Inquiry To Look Into Killings, Destruction Of Properties

Orluzurumee Youth Assembly, (OYA) the apex umbrella body of youths in the 12 local government areas of Orlu zone, has reacted to speculations that it has endorsed Governor Hope Uzodinma for a second tenure.

The National President of the group Comrade Thaddeus Emejuru in a release jointly  signed with the National Secretary, Comrade Paschal Chibueze said that, the group has at no time discussed the issue of endorsing Uzodinma. Rather, it has been pre-occupied with how to address the hydra headed insecurity in the zone and restore normalcy through engagement of critical stakeholders in the zone.

They expressed regret that most politicians in the area are only into politics of  stomach infrastructure without sparing a thought about how to address the deteriorating welfare of the people who have been ravaged by hunger, poverty, lack, extra judicial killings, kidnapping, arson and other vices occasioned by debilitating insecurity.

“It is unfortunate that some mischievous and unscrupulous persons are using the name of Orluzurumee Youth Assembly to assuage their desire for crumbs from their masters’ tables and other selfish reasons. However, it should be noted that OYA is a group that was founded and established on principle, integrity and commitment to the welfare of the people of Orlu zone whose individual and collective interests are paramount”.

They called on Governor Uzodinma to, as a matter of urgency curtail the excesses of the state government sponsored Ebubeagu Security Network, other security agents operating in the state and set up a panel of inquiry that will holistically look into the several extra judicial killings in the zone, bring the perpetrators to book and find ways of assuaging the plight of the victims and their families. “This is the primary concern of OYA. Hence, there is no  reason for such endorsement as doing so would amount to mocking the several youths who died as a result of insecurity in Orlu zone and Imo State at large”.

They also used the opportunity to call on Imo people at home and in the Diaspora to ignore and disregard the speculations which they described as ill-motivated falsehood concocted by crafty, mischievous and disgruntled elements to deceive the people.

The release further stated that at the appropriate time, it will take a stand regarding the forthcoming election after consulting with the people, particularly the Town Union Presidents and traders who are adversely affected by the insecurity.
