There are indications that uneasy calm has enveloped the Imo State Government House following the re-enlistment of the case instituted by the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and the candidate of Action Alliance AA in the 2019 governorship election, Uche Nwosu, seeking interpretation of the latter’s disqualification by the apex court on the ground of double nomination.

A Government House source who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity disclosed that Governor Uzodinma has been rattled by the latest development.

According to him, “the Governor has not actually been himself since the matter was re-enlisted by the Supreme Court for interpretation, despite his pretending that all is well. He left Imo State for Abuja the moment he heard that the matter has been re-enlisted and returned to the state on Sunday”.

“As I speak to you now, there is uneasy calm in the government circle as no one knows what the outcome of the matter will be. There are speculations that some of the Governor’s aides have started removing their things from the Government House to avoid being taken unawares like his predecessor, Chief Emeka Ihedioha who least expected the Supreme Court judgment that removed him from office.

Though, it is rumoured that the Supreme Court has shifted the matter to December, 5, no one knows if that is true or whether the October, 31, date earlier mentioned remains sacrosanct. Hence, the prevailing confusion, anxiety and uneasy calm. However, the Governor has been able to manage the situation by giving the impression that there is no cause for alarm”.

Recall, that shortly after Hope Uzodinma was declared winner of the 2019 governorship election from a distant fourth position, the PDP, APGA and Uche Nwosu approached the Supreme Court to know how and why that was possible considering the fact that, following the disqualification of Uche Nwosu for being the candidate of the APC and the AA, the APC had no candidate for the election. This, according to them negates Uzodinma’s emergence as Governor on the platform of the same APC that did not have a candidate for the election.
