-Oru West Gets Two Slots

The list of Commissioner nominees which Governor Hope Uzodinma sent to the Imo State House of Assembly yesterday for confirmation has elicited uproar and controversy among Imolites who accused the Governor of loopsided appointment in view of the fact that 9 of the nominees hail from Orlu zone while two are from Owerri zone and one person from Okigwe zone.

A cursory look at the list shows that Chief Declan Emelumba, the immediate past Commissioner for Information and Strategy and Barr Raph Nwosu are from Oru West Local Government Area.

The nominees who were screened, namely, Anyanwu Ezechinyere Anselem hails from, Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area, Nwosu Obiora Rapheal, Oru West, Declan Emelumba, Oru West, Amadi Chimezie Paulinus, Nwangele, Obinna Evaristus Onyeocha, Orlu, Barr Emenike Chuks Major, Onuimo, Dr Sir Chika Benson Abazu, Ideato North, Chief Madauba Cosmas Nwabueze, Isu Njaba, Bede Eke, Ngor Okpalla, Modestus Osakwe, Isu, Obinna Ogwuegbu, Ihitte Uboma and Nkechi Ugwu who hails from Ideato South, also in Orlu zone.

A top politician from Owerri zone who commented on the development which he described as sad stated that, Uzodinma has started showing what he has in stock for the people of Owerri and Okigwe zones. He berated the leaders of the two zones for allowing themselves to be used as pawns in the Governor’s chess board.

He further stated that Governor Uzodinma, “having allegedly “settled” them to actualize his second term ambition does not owe any of them apology for whatever he does or decides to do in the next four years because one cannot eat his cake and still have it”.

That nine out of the 12 names he sent to the House of Assembly are from Orlu zone, while two are from Owerri zone and one from Okigwe zone is a very bold statement that does not need explanation”.

A Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress APC, who hails from Okigwe zone also expressed similar sentiments in a chat with this reporter, pointing out that they will convene a meeting to strategize on the next line of action.
