–         As Pressure On Him To Join Race Intensifies

As the 2027 Imo governorship election draws closer with the attendant political intrigues, alignments and realignments, several groups are said to be mounting pressure on Dr Fabian Ihekweme, a former Commissioner for Foreign Affairs in Imo State to join the race.

Information available to our news desk indicates that some of the groups  threw their weight behind Ihekweme because of what they described as his visionary, credible, people-oriented leadership qualities.

An anonymous source who spoke to this reporter said, “many of those calling on Ihekweme to declare interest in the contest are making reference to his track record in public service, particularly when he was a Commissioner.

“Dr. Ihekweme has the integrity, intellect, and experience needed to lead Imo into a new era of development, “said by Wisdom, a progressive youth from Owerri zone. “He is accessible, pragmatic, and understands the complexities of governance in today’s Nigeria.

Despite not being overtly political in recent years,  Ihekweme has maintained a strong presence at the grassroots. His philanthropic gestures, support for education and youth empowerment programs and advocacy for inclusive governance have earned him goodwill across the three senatorial zones of the state.

His ability to bridge divides across party lines and his history of serving under different political administrations have also positioned him as a unifying figure—something many say Imo urgently needs amid growing political polarization.

Though, Dr. Ihekweme has not publicly declared his intention to run, his recent engagements and high-level consultations across the state suggest that he may be seriously considering the option. He has remained noncommittal in the media, choosing instead to emphasize the importance of peace, unity, and visionary leadership in his recent public appearances.

Analysts suggest that a declaration by Ihekweme could significantly alter the political equation ahead of the 2027 race. His entry would likely galvanize support from key blocs and could force a recalibration of strategies by other leading contenders^

As the 2027 elections draw closer, Imo’s political space continues to witness heightened interest and realignments. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to release the full timetable, but aspirants and parties are already preparing for what promises to be a defining contest.

Whether or not Ihekweme heeds the calls to run, one thing is clear: the people of Imo are yearning for transformational leadership, and the search for credible candidates is underway”.

They maintained that though Ihekweme has not publicly declared his intention to contest the governorship election, his recent engagements and high level consultations across the state suggest that he may be seriously considering the option. He has been non committal in the media choosing instead to emphasize the importance of peace, unity and visionary leadership in his recent public appearances”.
