–  Says: Children Are His, Mother Not His Wives

The legal fireworks between Hon Ikenna Ihezuo, representing Orlu State Constituency and one of his estranged wives is getting hotter as the legislator has filed a counterclaim in response to what he filed.

Ihezuo, responding to his wives claims in Suit: NO/HOW/FE/2/2025 described the reliefs sought by his estranged wife who also sought custody of her children averred that, “the instant application is incompetent, an abuse of court process and an exercise in gold digging on the part of the applicant, There is no person known to me as Mrs.Abigail Akachi Ihezuo”.

The lawmaker countered the claims made by his estranged wife Mrs Abigail Akachi Ihezuo who initiated the suit by stating that he is the biological father of the children in question but was not at any time officially married to their mother despite the pressure she mounted to that effect.

“That the grounds upon which the Preliminary issues are sought are:

(a)The applicant was never married to me.

(b)The children are acknowledged but not the alleged marriage.

(c)The Court lacks jurisdiction to entertain issues of alleged marriage under the Child Rights Acts.

“Without prejudice to the above grounds of objections I state;

“That I am the biological father of Miss Stephanie Oluchi Ihezuo and Master Stanley Onyekachi Ihezuo by virtue of which I am conversant with the facts of the substantive application.

“That paragraph 2 of the affidavit is denied.In response I state as follows:

“(a) That I started having a relationship with the applicant and in the course of time,there was significant pressure from her part for us to go and meet her parents.

“(b) That on getting to her place to initiate the traditional process,her people discovered that she is with child.

“(c) That on account of the said discovery,every further step was halted as it relates to the marriage process on the grounds that under the customs and traditions of the Ugiri-Ibeme community where she comes from,a lady is not married out while pregnant.

“(d) That the marriage rites or steps were never started again until she started causing problems between me and her.

“That paragraph 3 is admitted only to the extent that we lived together. The part about the marriage is denied”.
