The arrest and continued detention of Hon Ekene Nnodumele, the former lawmaker for Orsu State constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly has elicited mixed reactions from a cross section of Imo people who expressed dismay over the development which they described as an abberation..
A prominent stakeholder in Orsu who spoke to this reporter said, “Nnodumele was arrested in Owerri last week Tuesday because one of the suspects involved in the killing at Arondizuogu had the former lawmakers phone number in his call log. Hence, he is being accused of being one of their sponsors”.
“But the truth is that, sequel to the government’s inability address the escalating insecurity in Orsu and environ, the people of Awo Idemili came together and resolved to partner with the Directorate of State Security (DSS) and the local vigilante to address insecurity in the area. And Nnoduemele, was made Chairman of the committee that has been working in synergy with the DSS to restore normalcy in the embattled area.
As a result of their efforts, over 440 youths in the area were recently granted amnesty in an exercise that was witnessed by operatives of the DSS”.
He further stated that he is not surprised that Nnodumele’s phone number was seen in the call log of one of the hoodlums because the locals who know who is who in the area gave him their phone numbers through which he persuaded them to stop their nefarious activities and accept amnesty.
