The 2027 Imo governorship race is set for a fierce showdown as development advocate Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi has unveiled the Action Peoples Party (APP) as his platform to challenge the dominance of the ruling APC opposition PDP, ADC, others

The announcement, made in Owerri, marks a turning point in Imo politics. What began three years ago as a grassroots movement, The Mazi Organization (TMO) has now transformed into a political force, rapidly spreading across the 27 LGAs and unsettling established parties.

Already, dozens of APC and ADC ward leaders, youth coordinators and women mobilizers have defected to APP, with more expected in the weeks and months ahead.

Nze Chika Amuta, an APC chieftain who joined the new party described Amadi as “a breath of fresh air” and “the future Imo needs.”

The ruling APC and other opposition parties have dismissed his ambition as premature, but insiders admit growing anxiety over APP’s momentum. Analysts say Amadi’s strength lies not only in his war chests but in his organic grassroots network and reform message, which could reshape political loyalties ahead of 2027.

With defections mounting and the political map shifting, Imo is bracing for an epic three-way battle and Amadi’s APP is already proving to be the wild card that could change everything.
