The people of Imerienwe Autonomous Community in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, are in deep mourning following the death of a matriach, Ezinne (Lolo) Beatrice Nwaogbo Ekechi (Nee Onuoha of Umuowa).
Ezinne Beatrice was the mother of the upwardly mobile business mogul, sociocultural crusader, industrialist and political exponent, High Chief (Dr)T.O.E. Ekechi, Ugo Eji Ejemba Ngor Okpala; Araba of Temidire, Ekiti. TOE Ekechi was a pioneer federal commissioner representing the South East in the North East Development Commission, NEDC. Before that, he served as Imo State commissioner of information, from where he worked as the director, election planning and monitoring, APC Presidential Campaign Council, 2015.
Lolo Ekechi’s first son, a retired accountant, civil servant spanning state, Treasury, Ministry of Works, Housing C Corporation before his emergence as HRH, Eze Augustine Uwadiegwu Ukachukwu Ekechi, the Ijenwe II of Imerienwe.
The other male child, Young-Tobby Ekechi, was at Access, Citibank even as he was the chairman, Ngor Okpala LGA, and now managing director of First Generation Mortgage Bank – the nation’s leading mortgage banker.
The first daughter, Lolo Ezinne Justina Ogu, Lolo Akuruolu of Obube in Owerri North, the first daughter is an accomplished Lagos businesswoman and inspirational community leader.
The other daughter, Moureen Ihejirika, is a retired Federal Ministrynof Works (Stores). And, Mrs Ngozi Ogbolu, a fashion icon.
In her lifetime, the late Lolo Ekechi was a hard working, caring and diligent woman who promoted peace, unity and progress in her family and community at large.
T. O. E. Ekechi remembers her as a “Dedicated, inspiring, and exemplary mother who for 30 years defied a debilitating stroke condition to sustain the navigation and building of a family dynasty that thrives on integrity, fear and love of God”.
She will be laid to rest on January 3,2026, in the Ekechi’s country home, Imerienwe.
