The member representing Ideato Federal Constituency Hon Ikenga Ugochinyere has strongly condemned the persistent abduction and torture of children across the country. He drew attention to the recent kidnapping of school children in Oyo State.
Reflecting on this year’s theme, _“My Day, My Right,” Ugochinyere affirmed that every child possesses an inalienable right to life, to growth, and to the full realization of their potential. No individual or institution, he stressed, has the moral or legal authority to obstruct or extinguish a child’s prospects of living freely. The abduction, torture, and murder of innocent children for no offense whatsoever, he noted, constitutes an indictment and a profound failure of government.
The lawmaker issued a clarion call for the vigorous protection of children’s rights, the advancement of their welfare, and the celebration of childhood itself. It remains our collective duty, he stated, to protect, nurture, and cultivate a secure environment for our children; to educate and enlighten them; and to bequeath to them a stable and just society.
“What future awaits a nation,” Ugochinyere queried, “if its children are maimed and murdered in the most heinous manner?”
He urged security agencies to intensify efforts and elevate their operational commitment to safeguarding children nationwide, emphasizing that the protection of our children must be treated as an uncompromising national priority.
