Tension and uneasy calm are said to have gripped the camps of Orlu Zone Legislators following preparation by the Performance Assessment Committee to release the comprehensive reports of its findings after months of extensive deliberations, rigorous field work, constituency engagements, project verification exercises and incisive interactions with stakeholders across the zone.
The committee led by a foremost human rights Activist and former student Union president of Imopoly,Comrade Achi Nnamdi undertook the historic assignment with a firm, “commitment to objectivity, fairness, transparency, and accountability. Despite numerous challenges encountered during the exercise, including logistical difficulties and security concerns, members of the Committee remained resolute in ensuring that the assessment was conducted without bias, sentiment, political affiliation, or favouritism”.
The committee in a release it issued to that effect said, “Regrettably, the Committee received several threat calls and intimidation attempts from certain underperforming lawmakers who, apparently uncomfortable with the prospect of an independent assessment of their stewardship, sought to frustrate and undermine the work of the Committee. However, these actions did not deter us from our pursuit of truth, accountability, and good governance. We remained steadfast in our determination to deliver a credible and factual report that reflects the realities on the ground.
“In carrying out this assignment, the Committee traversed the entire Orlu Zone, reaching all the 139 electoral wards and approximately 270 communities. The assessment process involved direct engagement with constituents, community leaders, youth groups, women organizations, traditional institutions, and other critical stakeholders. The Committee also undertook physical verification of projects and carefully reviewed the legislative records and constituency activities of elected representatives at both the state and federal levels.
“This exercise represents one of the most comprehensive citizen-driven legislative performance assessments ever conducted within the Orlu Zone. It is aimed at strengthening democratic accountability, promoting effective representation, and encouraging public office holders to remain responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people they serve.
As the unveiling date approaches, the Committee wishes to assure the people of Orlu Zone that the report will reflect only verified facts and findings gathered throughout the exercise. The objective is not to witch-hunt any individual but to provide an honest and unbiased assessment of legislative performance in the interest of the people and the future development of the zone.
“We sincerely appreciate the good people of Orlu Zone for their cooperation, support, contributions, and encouragement throughout this exercise. The success of this assignment would not have been possible without the willingness of community members to provide information, share their experiences, and participate actively in the assessment process.
“The Committee remains committed to the ideals of accountability, transparency, responsible leadership, and good governance. We therefore invite all stakeholders, members of the public, civil society organizations, the media, and elected representatives to receive the report in good faith and view it as a constructive contribution towards the advancement and development of Orlu Zone”.
