In order to safeguard pupils, students, teachers and school facilities in all the autonomous communities in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State, the Executive Chairman of the Council, Pastor Chris Mbarie, has urged the stakeholders of the areas to set up a vibrant and active Community School Security Committee.

The directives issued to the heads of the communities, signed and made available to the media by the Council Boss on Monday, takes immediate effect.

Mbarie reiterated that the Committee is to “strengthen vigilance around schools, promote community participation in school security, prevent criminal activities, protect school infrastructure, provide coordinated response to security threats affecting educational institutions within the various communities”.

He enumerated some of the objectives of the Committee as “Monitor/Safeguard all public and private schools within the community, liaise with security agencies on matters affecting the safety of schools, prevent vandalism, Kidnappings, cult –  related activities, drug abuse and criminal acts around the schools.

“Promote intellectual gathering and timely reporting of suspicious movements and activities”.

The Council Chairman noted that the “Committee shall comprise the Traditional Ruler, President-General, Community Vigilante Commander/Security Commander, Parents Teachers Association, Woman PG, two Prominent Sons of the Community”.

He added that the vigilante heads are the Senior Prefects of Secondary Schools in the community. 

Stating that all communities are required to inaugurate their respective School Security Committees and hence forward the names and contact details of Committee Members to the office of the Executive Chairman of Orlu LGA with stipulated period, Mbarie called for cooperation of those concerned to achieve success.
