The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress APC, in Imo state, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones has berated the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) over what he described as its inability to organize a credible, transparent and fair congress, in addition to being an unregistered political party.
Onwuasoanya, described by many as a rabble rousing social critic, in a press statement he personally signed stated that, “Yesterday, competing factions within the unregistered Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) clashed among themselves over issues that that are not unrelated to their poorly organised, highly compromised and shamefully discredited ticket auctioning bazaar, which they passed off as primaries.
The incident was basically an internal clash between competing and inept factions of the unregistered National Democratic Congress (NDC) which degenerated into a violent clash where chairs were broken and used as weapons by thugs loyal to the various competing factions”.
Onwuasoanya, who is reportedly very loquacious, further mocked the NDC, by saying, “It is important to note that the yet to be registered NDC has not announced a definitive candidate for the Imo East Senatorial District, as the various individuals who tried to buy off the ticket, still lay claim to the candidacy of the Party. These individuals include; Hon. Tony Okpe, Chief Charles Onyeagbako and Hon. Uche Onyeagocha.
It was under this circumstance that one of the individuals laying claim to the Party’s ticket, went ahead to convene a meeting of his faction. On getting wind of this meeting, thugs and supporters of the other aspirants, invaded the venue of the meeting and disrupted it, violently. The attempt by thugs loyal to Uche Onyeagocha to resist this disruption led to a free for all fight”.
He also claimed that government agents led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Monitoring/Compliance, Nze Chinasa Nwaneri, mobilized members of his task team including officers of the Nigeria Police, mobilised to restore order and protect innocent Imo citizens, including some of our beloved mothers and other vulnerable citizens, from harm. These citizens are grateful to the government for their prompt intervention, without which there might have been some fatalities”.
Meanwhile, Onwuasoanya’s narratives have been countered by some persons who claimed to have witnessed the incident. Some of them who spoke to our reporter described Onwuasoanya’s account of what happened as biased, jaundiced and calculated misrepresentation of facts aimed at deceiving the public.
