There was  jubilation galore over the weekend, as Relief Market Owerri, elected new union executive that will take over the management of the market from the outgone leadership.

The election, held on Saturday, at the Owerri Municipal Headquarters  was  reportedly free, transparent and peaceful.

The election was  conducted by the Electoral Committee comprising members of the Relief Market Owerri, with the Open-Secret ballot system.

The Imo Vigilance Organization was on ground to witness the process,  ensured peace and fairness.

The process saw Engr. Kelechi Chikere emerging as the new Chairman of Relief Main Market Owerri having polled 762 votes to defeat his rival who got below 60 votes.

Chikere, who thanked the marketers for voting him in, vowed that he would be efficient, steadfast and humble, as he works cordially with the entire Executive Members to move the union forward.

Earlier, the newly elected Provost 2 of the market, Hon. Bashir Tukur Tangwale, said that he would add more effort to strengthen cooperation, peace and growth of the market.

“I appreciate the Igbo people all over the world especially the ones at the Relief Main Market Owerri for finding me worthy and electing me as Provost 2 despite that I am from the North. I’m happy that I won and I will always mingle with people irrespective of tribe or class”, Tukur added.

Just as Ifeanyi Oguike, who emerged as the Financial Secretary of the market, expressed satisfaction over the orderly conduct of the market election and vowed to uphold the principles of the union to push forth.
