A businessman and community leader, Engr. Chuks Iddi, has congratulated the newly elected Executive Committee of the Amanaogu People’s Assembly, describing their emergence as a victory for democracy, unity, and the collective aspirations of the people of Amanaogu Autonomous Community in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State.

Engr. Iddi gave the commendation following the successful conduct of the town union election held on Friday, July 3, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Parish, Amanaogu, where community members elected a new leadership in what observers widely described as one of the most peaceful, transparent, and credible elections in the community’s recent history.

The exercise attracted a large turnout of indigenes, youths, women, traditional rulers, government officials, and other stakeholders, all of whom participated actively in the democratic process.

The election commenced with candidates presenting their manifestos, outlining plans for community development, improved security, youth empowerment, transparency, accountability, and infrastructural development before voting commenced using the Option A4 open ballot system.

At the conclusion of the exercise, Amb. Andrew Maduka emerged as President-General of the Amanaogu People’s Assembly after securing a decisive victory.

Other elected officers include Hon. Osita Ezeani (Vice President-General), Bennett Okeke (General Secretary), Nze JohnLuke Obidiaso (Assistant General Secretary), High Chief Felix Ezenwoke (Financial Secretary), Mr. Paulinus Ezeani (Treasurer), Arch. Chinonso Barth Ezike (Publicity Secretary), Nze Onyeka Okah Ezike (Welfare Secretary), Mr. Ejimkonye Udenyi (Provost I), and High Chief Izuchukwu Nwabuo (Provost II).

Announcing the results, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee stated that the election was conducted strictly in accordance with the constitution of the Amanaogu People’s Assembly, affirming that all the successful candidates met the constitutional requirements for their respective offices.

Reacting to the outcome, Engr. Chuks Iddi applauded the Electoral Committee, contestants, and the people of Amanaogu for conducting themselves peacefully throughout the exercise. He noted that the orderly conduct of the election reflected the community’s growing democratic culture and commitment to unity.

He congratulated the newly elected executive and urged its members to justify the confidence reposed in them by embracing transparent, accountable, and inclusive leadership.

According to him, the new administration should place the overall interest of the community above personal considerations, promote reconciliation among all groups, and pursue programmes that will accelerate the socio-economic development of Amanaogu.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected President-General, Amb. Andrew Maduka, expressed appreciation to the people for the overwhelming support given to him and his team. He pledged to run an open, transparent, and people-oriented administration anchored on accountability, unity, and sustainable development.

“This victory belongs to every son and daughter of Amanaogu. Together, we shall build a stronger, more united, and progressive community,” he said.

Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of Orsu Local Government Area, Hon. Friday Ibekaeme, who monitored the election, described the exercise as one of the most peaceful and credible community elections conducted within the council area. 

He commended both the contestants and the electorate for demonstrating maturity and respect for democratic principles and urged other communities to emulate the example set by Amanaogu.

Similarly, the Traditional Prime Minister of Amanaogu Autonomous Community and former member of the House of Representatives representing Orsu, Orlu, and Oru East Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Asiwaju Jerry Alagbaoso, represented by the Vice Chairman of Orsu Local Government Area and outgoing Public Relations Officer of the Amanaogu People’s Assembly, Hon. Chief Kelvin Chibuike Ezikeojiaku (Nwajiugonnaya of Amanaogu), congratulated the new executive and encouraged its members to foster unity, reconciliation, and inclusive governance.

Residents who witnessed the election expressed satisfaction with the peaceful atmosphere that characterised the exercise, describing the outcome as a true reflection of the people’s will.

The successful election has been widely hailed as a significant milestone in the democratic development of Amanaogu Autonomous Community, with stakeholders expressing optimism that the new leadership will usher in an era of greater unity, peace, and accelerated development.
