The Labour Party, LP, standard bearer for Owerri senatorial Zone in the 2027 elections, Sir Basil Maduka, has launched a zone-wide appreciation tour, thanking party leaders and stakeholders after his unopposed emergence as the party’s candidate.
Maduka, who was affirmed unopposed in the LP primaries, described his nomination as “the beginning of responsibility, not celebration.” He assured constituents of “quality, accountable, and effective representation” if elected in 2027.
The candidate’s tour covered Owerri West, Ngor-Okpala, Aboh Mbaise, and his community, Akpodim in Ezinihitte Mbaise LGA.
In Owerri West, he made a symbolic stop at Amakohia Ubi to witness the 2026 ‘Owu Festival,’ and engaged directly with community leaders and youths.
Across all LGAs, Maduka’s message dwelt consistently on gratitude for the mandate, and the firm promise to deliver on expectations.
Speaking to constituents, Maduka said: “I’ve come to thank you for the confidence reposed in me during the primaries.
“This is the beginning of my concern for you. I will return for full campaigns, but my word to you today is this: my representation will accelerate development in the areas you care about most —jobs, health, farms, and access you can hold me to.”
The reception was warm across the board. LGA, ward, and youth leaders pledged support “when the chips are down.”
In Aboh Mbaise, the LP Chairman, Engr. Nnadozie Anyanwu, said: “The ‘Obedient’ ideology is still alive in the Labour Party. Sir Basil is not a career politician. He is an accomplished professional who has touched lives. We need leaders like him.”
LP’s Aboh Mbaise State House of Assembly candidate, Prince George Ugochukwu Nwaturuocha, described the tour as “a resurgence of the Labour Party.”
“We have come to make a statement: Labour Party is stronger, safer, and stands for equity and justice. This is a new dawn to rewrite our legislative narrative in Aboh Mbaise, Owerri Zone, and Nigeria,” he said.
A major highlight was Maduka’s homage to traditional rulers, including HRH Eze Justin Chukwuma Nwaneri, PhD, Eziagu III of Enyiogugu Autonomous Community, Aboh Mbaise, a Knight of the Church and Justice of the Peace.
