….Say, Communities Neglected, Deprived Of Basic Amenities
A socio-political group known as Niger Delta Solidarity Forum, has berated the management of the Imo State Oil Producing Communities Development Commission (ISOPADEC) over what it described as the poor utilization of the commission’s funds that has led to the neglect, lack and deprivation of basic amenities the component communities have been subjected to for a long time.
The group expressed disappointment that despite the enormous funds that have consistently accrued to the commission, there is nothing on ground to show for it in terms of development in the communities. “All the link roads in the component communities, including the one that links Avu Junction to Owerri Municipal Council are utterly dilapidated”
The President of the group Emeka Kingdom, who stated this while addressing newsmen in Owerri, the state capital yesterday, said the situation has become unacceptable. They called on the Governor to, “as a matter of urgency relieve the Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Imo State Chief Austin …..of his position as the Managing Director of ISOPADEC because it is an abberation for such organization to be managed by a person with pronounced political affiliation. Besides, for him to occupy such challenging dual positions that demand time and committment will negatively affect his performance thereby negating the commission’s mission and vision. We therefore call on the governor to quickly review his appointment and appoint a neutral person as the Managing Director of ISOPADEC.”
They also called for a forensic audit of the Commission’s accounts to ensure transparency and accountability, as that is the only way to dispel the trending negative insinuations circulating in different quarters.
