As group Publishes Monthly Allocations From September 2024 to April 2026
– Vows To Demand Accountability
The controversy surrounding allegations of diversion and misappropriation of funds against the Executive Chairman of Nwangele Local Government Area has taken a new dimension, following the publication of the council’s alleged monthly allocations from September 2024 to April 2026 by a civic group.
The allegations were first raised by Mr. Athan Iwuchukwu (Okenze Amaigbo), an indigene of Umukaiba Amaigbo in Nwangele LGA.
Speaking on behalf of the group, he released what he described as the council’s monthly allocations and demanded accountability over the management of the funds.
Iwuchukwu also criticised the member representing Nwangele State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Amara Iwuanyanwu, over what he described as the lawmaker’s “questionable silence” on the matter. According to him, the silence could be interpreted as complicity in the alleged diversion of public funds meant to improve the welfare of the people.
Several indigenes of the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, expressed concern over what they described as the wide disparity between the huge allocations allegedly received by the council and the level of infrastructure and development across Nwangele LGA.
According to them, “With the level of docility and insensitivity exhibited by the lawmaker representing Nwangele State Constituency, who is also the Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, his third-term ambition is dead on arrival. He is either an accomplice or has failed in his responsibility by not asking the necessary questions on behalf of the people.”
The group further stated: “There is an urgent need for explanations from the Chairman and his political associates. How can our local government receive billions of naira in allocations within two years while many roads remain in deplorable condition, health centres lack essential drugs, and public primary schools are in a state of disrepair, exposing our children to serious hazards?
“We therefore call on the Executive Chairman of Nwangele LGA and relevant officials to provide a detailed account of how the funds received by the council during the period under review were utilised, including projects executed. Failure to do so within seven days will leave us with no option but to seek legal redress.”
