OWERRI, July 30, 2026 – The Orluzurumee Youth Assembly (OYA), the apex youth umbrella body in Orlu Senatorial Zone, has honoured the Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu, with the Distinguished Legislative Excellence Award after emerging as the Best Performing State Lawmaker from the zone.
The award was presented on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the National Executive Council of the Orluzurumee Youth Assembly to the Deputy Speaker’s office at the Imo State House of Assembly Complex in Owerri.
Presenting the award, the National President of OYA, Prince Izunna Obiefule, JP, said the recognition followed the findings of the Orluzurumee Youth Assembly Legislative Performance Assessment Report, which evaluated the performance of lawmakers representing Orlu Senatorial Zone during the 2023–2026 legislative session.
Obiefule explained that the assessment was conceived as an independent civic initiative aimed at promoting legislative accountability, transparency and effective representation, while encouraging elected officials to improve service delivery to their constituents.
He congratulated Iwuanyanwu for emerging as the highest-rated state legislator from the zone and urged him to sustain the leadership qualities and commitment to public service that earned him the honour.
The OYA president also called on other legislators representing Orlu Senatorial Zone to embrace the report’s findings in good faith and remain focused on providing responsive and people-oriented representation capable of driving sustainable development across the zone.
According to him, the legislative assessment was not politically motivated or designed to target any individual or political party but was intended to strengthen democratic accountability through objective performance evaluation.
“The Orluzurumee Youth Assembly remains committed to constructive engagement with all elected representatives from Orlu Senatorial Zone. We will continue to recognise excellence in public service while encouraging improved performance in the overall interest of our people,” Obiefule stated.
The Assembly’s National Secretary, Nze Dim Chibuike, and Chairman of the Legislative Performance Assessment Committee, Comrade Nnamdi Achi, later presented the official award citation and Certificate of Legislative Excellence to the Deputy Speaker.
They described the award as recognition of exemplary legislative leadership, noting that it reflects the Assembly’s commitment to promoting excellence, accountability and responsible governance.
The citation stated that “true leadership is measured not merely by the office one occupies, but by the positive impact made in the lives of the people.”
Responding, Iwuanyanwu expressed appreciation to the Orluzurumee Youth Assembly for the recognition, describing the award as both humbling and motivating.
He pledged to intensify efforts toward providing effective, inclusive and quality representation for the people of Nwangele State Constituency while contributing to the development of Orlu Senatorial Zone and Imo State.
The Deputy Speaker also reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the 3R administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma, which he said has continued to drive development across the state.
He further commended the Orluzurumee Youth Assembly for promoting youth development, civic engagement and democratic accountability, assuring the organisation of his continued support for initiatives aimed at empowering young people, fostering peace and advancing development in Orlu Senatorial Zone.
