Residents of Ohohia Community in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State have expressed joy following the approval of several measures by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), through Transpower Electricity Distribution Limited, aimed at addressing the community’s electricity billing concerns.
The development comes months after the community experienced prolonged power outages while residents continued to receive estimated electricity bills despite the absence of electricity supply.
According to an official letter dated July 10, 2026, and addressed to the President General of Ohohia General Assembly (OGA), Chief Oscar Angus Okorie, Transpower Electricity Distribution Limited approved a number of interventions following sustained engagements with the community leadership.
The company said it had completed a comprehensive review of customers’ electricity bills and assured residents that subsequent monthly bills would reflect revised and accurate charges applicable to each account.
It also approved the installation of a Distribution System Sub-Station (DSS) meter for the community to enhance energy accountability, transparency and fairness.
The installation is expected to be completed on or before July 31, 2026.
In addition, the company confirmed that all customer accounts in Ohohia had been reconciled, noting that the outcome of the exercise would be reflected in the August 2026 electricity bills.
Transpower further approved a fresh customer enumeration exercise to ensure that all electricity consumers in the community are properly identified and captured for accurate billing.
In the letter, the company commended the community’s leadership for its approach to resolving the issues, appreciating “the constructive manner in which the community, under your leadership, has engaged with us,” while also acknowledging Chief Okorie’s patience and cooperation throughout the process.
Residents welcomed the development, describing it as a major relief after months of hardship.
A community leader, who spoke during the celebration, said the interventions would restore confidence in the electricity distribution process.”For months we lived in darkness while paying bills for electricity we did not receive. With electricity restored, billing reviewed and a DSS meter approved, we believe fairness and transparency will now prevail,” the resident said.
Community groups, including the Ohohia General Assembly, Ohohia in Diaspora and the Ohohia Ministers’ Forum, also welcomed the approvals, expressing optimism that the measures would improve electricity service delivery and billing accuracy in the community.
The latest development is expected to strengthen electricity distribution and enhance consumer confidence in Ohohia as residents look forward to improved service and fairer billing.
