Orluzurumee Youth Assembly (OYA), had, on Sunday, in Owerri, the Imo State capital, elected new Executive that will coordinate its activities for the period of four years.
Speaking after the election, the Electoral Committee Chairman, Engr. Okolie Christian, who hails from Orsu LGA, noted that the exercise was peaceful and free as credible persons emerged, saying
OYA had achieved great feat and cannot afford to allow the hope and common interests of the people of Orlu Senatorial Zone dashed or thrown overboard by greedy and overzealous individuals parading as politicians.
Okolie hinted that OYA, in conjunction with the Board of Trustees, sequel to the expiration of the tenure of the previous leadership, agreed to hold the creditable poll that brought in the new leadership, to continue to drive the affairs of OYA to fruition and success, observing that there was an intensive screening of the contestants with Prince Izunna Obiefule JP emerging as President.
Addressing the youth earlier, the out-going President of OYA, Comr. Emejuru Theddius, an indigene of Ideato South, affirmed that the interest of the people of Orlu Zone is paramount, reflecting that OYA is going to fully support the New Executive to succeed while championing the Zone’s general cause, regretting that the issue of insecurity in the Zone has been troubling the residents of the area, with the authority caring less.
Thus, in his acceptance speech, the newly elected President of OYA, Prince Izunna Obiefule JP, expressed joy and gratitude for being given the mandate to serve the people through that exalted capacity, promising that he would not fail.
The President who blamed the raging carnage and insecurity in Orlu Zone by poor governance and selfish representation, said when the youth are meaningfully and productively engaged by government and wealthy individuals, crime, violence and insecurity will minimally reduce.
To ensure peace therein, Obiefule called on politicians who enjoy the mandate of the people to engage the youth of Orlu Zone positively, just as he called on relevant security agents to intensify proactiveness to be able to quell the scourge for enhanced peace and security.
“Insecurity, being engineered by the state actors – given to poor governance – spurred by greed, wickedness and hatred, is an irritating problem in Orlu Zone and my leadership is going to work proactively with security agencies from all strata to find a lasting solution”, the President stressed.
