The contest for the Okigwe Senate seat on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 election has left the party secretariat for the court, as Senator Patrick Ndubueze, has initiated legal action using Chief Longers Anyanwu, who was also a senatorial aspirant as a proxy.

A party source who does not want his name in print, said Longers Anyanwu apparently doing Ndubeze’s bidding, approached the court to ensure that the latter’s name is submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s candidate despite all odds.

However, it was gathered that Senator Ararume’s name had been submitted to INEC as the APC candidate for Okigwe senatorial zone.

An informed party source who also pleaded anonymity said, “Patrick Ndubueze, has gone to court through Chief Longers Anyanwu. But details of the Suit he initiated are still unknown because they are intentionally making it a secret. They don’t want the public to know about the suit.

But APC stakeholders in the zone are united in their support for Senator Ararume, because they believe that he has the capacity to win the election. Besides, he has suffered humiliation, and been deprived of opportunities by the current administration in the state. For instance, he was denied the opportunity of serving as the Chairman, of the board of the Nigeria National Petroleum Limited (NNPC) Ltd by the Uzodinma administration”.

The source also posited that, “Longers Anyanwu’s interest in the matter between Ndubueze and Ararume, is that he believes stopping Ararume now, will pave the way for him to replace Ndubueze as the senator for Okigwe zone in  2031. But unfortunately, he is embarking on a wild goose chase”
