A three storey building collapsed penultimate Wednesday, 8 of November, 2017, at Okoromeje, Amaifeke near Master Piece Hotel in Orlu local government area of Imo state. The building which was to serve commercial purposes collapsed at the roofing level.

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) led by Engr. V.C Igiri, FNSE and the Orlu chapter Chairman Engr. Chidozie Okereke visited the site of the collapsed building on Monday 13th of November when the information got to them.

The Chairman expressed his displeasure over the huge loss of resources which he said should have been beneficial if qualified engineers and architects were involved in the construction. The secretary of NSE Orlu chapter Engr. Gerald Okwe said that it is better to involve the services of professional at all cost than to lose lives and properties in a massive building collapse. However, nobody was trapped in the collapse.

It should also be recalled that many buildings have collapsed in several places within and outside Imo state this year. Some of the buildings were three storey building including the ones recorded at Obinze which was to serve as a hostel for FUTO students and others were recorded at Ulakwo, Umuguma, Umuokwara Orlu etc.
