Charlie Boy threatens to drag FG to court over corruption

Ourmumudondo Movement, a pro-democracy group in Nigeria which recently embarked on a protest calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to return from his medical trip abroad or resign, is in the news again. This time around OurMumudondo wants President Buhari to act on cases of alleged fraudulent practices bordering on the award of $25 million contract

Presently, they are organizing a sit-out at Abuja urging President Muhammadu Buhari to act decisively or resign from office over allegations of a N120 billion bribe against the Inspector General of Police (IGP), $50 million scandal against the NIIA Director General and the N120 million contract scandal against the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, (SGF) Dr. Babachir Lawal.

Though there has not been any response from the authorities at Aso Rock Villa Abuja, as at Friday October 27, 2017 when they briefed the press, the Movement is poised to continue the protest which once rounded up by Friday November 2, 2017 without any reaction, might see the group resorting to the law courts to compel the Federal Government to act on those cases of fraud on treasury looting or resign from office.

While addressing the press in Abuja over the weekend, Mr. Raphael Adebayo, the National Publicity Secretary of the group, announced that arrangements have been concluded to drag the Federal Government to court. The legal action he added will however come after writing formally to the Accountant General of the Federation to furnish them with details of all transactions and reports of the various probe panels or committees instituted by President Muhammadu Buhari on the allegations.

According to Adebayo, this is in line with the freedom of information law which permits any concerned group or individuals to seek to obtain any information on all financial transactions or conducts of government. “It is only when this option fails that Ourmumudondo Movement” will now resort to court as the last hope of the common man so as to force the President to act or resign as the case may be, he stated.

Meanwhile reports from Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory have it that just like in the previous case where Buhari harkened to the return or resign protest, he has responded promptly to the demands of “OurMumudondo Movement”. For instance a new Secretary to the government of Federation Mr. Mustapha has been appointed while the NIIA Director General has finally been sacked from office. The government was however silent on mainagate and Baru-kachukwu scandals.
