The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Imo State chapter, has joined other female groups and politicians to canvas for the Speakership of the 9th Imo House of Assembly, thus urging the two term legislator representing Isu State House of Assembly, Chief (Mrs) Ngozi Obiefule, to go for the post.

The media women group made their views known during their recent visit to honour the female legislator at her residence in Owerri, where they decorated her as “the most outstanding, accessible and proactive legislator, of the 8thAssembly”.

The Association of Women Journalists led by it’s Chairman, Barr. Vivian Otti, noted that judging by her excellent performance in the past, they deem it fit to motivate and draw support or aspire for a principal position to balance the gender equality in the next administration.

Hon. (Mrs) Ngozi Obiefule, who had previously bagged a number of media and Honourary awards exhibited her leadership quality as one time Mayor of Akacity, when she was credited with the development and modernization of the Afor Umuaka market. Today, that market stands out as the most modern community market in the entire South East region.

It would be recalled that recently, a group of women politician under the auspices of Imo Women Frontier (IWF), demanded the inclusion of the female folks in the leadership position in the state and had called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the party assuming power to consider the position of women in the state.

Some political pundits and observers as well as the various women groups contend that since the leadership of men had failed, the state in the 7th and 8thAssembly, it would be wise to give a tested woman a chance.
