The chairman of Imo State Traditional Institution and Community Police, HRM, Eze Dr. E.C. Okeke, has made further clarifications on the duties and responsibilities of the Institution.

These were made known in a press release, signed him and made available to Newsmen over the weekend.

According to the template for the community policing, the Traditional Rulers are to be held responsible for crime and criminal activities in their domain.

In line with the above, they (the traditional rulers) know the good, the bad, and the ugly in their respective communities. They are in a better stead and should pick the security people/vigilante they will work with. By this, they can be held accountable for occurrences in their domains.

The release reads in part,”all traditional rulers have submitted the list of their selected security/vigilante personnel to the Secretary to the Government of Imo State (SGI). The list contains people they know and can work with to safeguard their communities.

Therefore, the Security Agencies and the Local Government Chairmen are by this notice advised to hands-off the issue of the security/vigilante personnel recruitment. It is the Traditional Rulers’ responsibility. They cannot work with strange people.

The Traditional Rulers will not take the responsibility of crime/criminal activities in their respective domains if the Security Agencies and the Local Government Chairmen recruit for them”.

He then warned politicians against interfering or destabilizing the system which is already on course.
