The Vice Chancellor of the Imo State University(IMSU) Owerri, Prof. Mrs. Victoria Adaobi Obasi over the weekend in Owerri extolled the governor of Imo State, senator Hope Uzodinma over what she described as unquenchable passion for educational development in Imo state.

She later dedicated an award presented to her by the Association of Nigeria Universities Alumni (ANUA) as most performing Vice Chancellor to the governor of Imo State.

In his opening remarks at the occasion, which held at the University auditorium, the BOT Chairman of ANUA and also the National President of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Alumni Association, Comrade Mohammed Sani Wada thanked the Imo State Government and Imo State University Owerri for accepting to host the Association’s annual event. He used the occasion to remind the public on the importance of contributing to the growth and development of their alma mater, no matter how small or big it may look. 

Also contributing, the embattled National President of Imo State University Alumni Association who is the host of the event,Prince Ferdinand Ezeala Akano, stated that the Association will continue to support universities in the country in order to move the educational sector forward. 

While delivering the award of excellence to Prof. Mrs Victoria Adaobi Obasi, the BOT Chairman of the Association Comr. Mohammed Sani Wada applauded the IMSU Vice Chancellor for transforming the institution within the short time she has been in charge of the institution. 

The BOT Chairman further attested to the massive infrastructural development the institution is executing under Prof. Mrs. Victoria Adaobi Obasi and stressed that the University is now wearing a new look in all ramifications. He as well commended the VC on the improvement of academic programmes of the institution, noting that the institution has gotten new accreditation for new courses and reaccreditation for  old courses it had lost earlier on from the National Universities Commission (NUC). 

In her response, the Vice Chancellor of the Imo State University Owerri Prof. Mrs. Victoria Adaobi Obasi thanked the Association for the honour given to her and her institution. 

She dedicated the award to the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma for his efforts in improving education system in the state, most especially at the Imo State University Owerri. 

The VC also used the opportunity to commend Uzodinma for coming to the aid of the University by disilting Lake Nwaebere which causes yearly flooding within the institution and had submerged over eleven houses in the past years. Adaobi Obasi stated that the disilting carried out by the Governor has made it possible for the institution not to experience heavy flooding this year. 

The ANUA maiden conference attracted delegates from different Alumni associations of different universities in the country and lots of other dignitaries. 

The governor of Imo state who was also honoured at the occasion was represented by the Commssioner for education, Prof BTO Ikegwuoha.
