Barely few months after the gruesome murder of an Orlu based  human Rights lawyer, Darlington Odume, popularly known as Omekagu who was trailed from his office to a business center in Amaifeke, Orlu, another lawyer, a retired Assistant commissioner of police, Mr Chris Patuma was also assassinated in such a gruesome manner.

Patuma had come home on evening tuesday, unknown to him that he was being trailed by his killers who waited until it was about 8am when they broke into his house at Mgbala Agwa village, Oguta Local Government area of Imo state and took him him to an unknown destination.Effort to trace whereabouts of the deceased was unsuccessful as his phone lines were switched off.

According a family source, the victim was last seen on the evening of that day when he returned home.”He had interacted briefly with some of his kinsmen before going home”, he stated.

The source further hinted that after he was murdered in such a heartless manner, his corpse was later brought to his house the following  day which is a pointer that he may have been killed by Assassins, as against earlier speculation that he was kidnapped for Ransom.

The development has further triggered anxiety among residents of the area who fear that such killing raises serious concern as the killers may gradually get at other prominent persons in the area if nothing urgent is done to stem the tides.

Effort to reach the Imo state police public relation officer, Mr Mike Abatam for his reaction on the development proved abortive.

When contacted, the special Adviser to the governor of Imo state on print media, Hon Modestus Nwamkpa confirmed the report but said he was yet to get detail of the sad development.
