Hon Dr Geff Chizee Ojinika, the Etiti, Orsu Ihiteukwa, Orsu Local Government Area born Consultant Optometrist, who was a lecturer at Abia State University, Uturu between 1990 and 1996 can be described as a man of many distinguished parts who by dint of hard work and the special grace of God excelled in different areas of human endeavour at a relatively young age.
Born on 12th December, 1961, in his Orsu Ihiteukwa community.Young Geff attended Central School, Orsu Ihiteukwa where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1976. Thereafter, he proceeded to Eastern Boys High School, Awo-Idemili where he schooled from 1976 to 1980 and later, community secondary school Awo-Idemili, where he sat for West African School Certificate examination in 1981.
Hon Geff Ojinika was a student of Abia State University, Uturu, between 1982 and 1988 where he obtained a Doctor of Optometry Degree. He also attended Eni Corporate University, Rome, where he obtained Diploma in International Petroleum Politics and Pricing.
Dr Ojinika, who was appointed Special Adviser to Governor Emeka Ihedioha on Interparty Affairs from July 2019-January 2022, can be described as a grassroots mobilizer, seasoned legislator and consummate politician having transversed Imo State and Nigeria’s political landscape like a colossus with verifiable achievements to show for it.
Before his election into the House of Representatives in 2003, as lawmaker for Orlu, Orsu, Oru East federal constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, a position he occupied until 2007, he was a member of the Imo state house of assembly for Orsu state constituency between 1999 and 2003.
Before his advent in the Imo state house of assembly, as member for Orsu state constituency, he was the Executive Chairman of Orsu local government area from 1997-1998, Acting Chairman, Orsu local government area, 1996, Supervisory Councillor for Health, Orsu, local government Council, 1994-1996.
At the federal house of Representatives where he represented Orlu, Orsu, Oru East Federal constituency between 2003 and 2007, he held the following positions, Sub-committee Chairman, National Programme on Immunization, Sub-committee chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, Member, House committee on Health, Member, House committee on Appropriation, Member, House committee on banking and currency, Member, House committee on public accounts, Member, House committee on gas resources, Member, House committee on information, Member, House Committee of Corporation and Integration in Africa, Member, National Assembly Committee on the review of 1999 Constitution.
During his sojourn at the Imo State house of Assembly where he represented Orsu State constituency between 2003 and 2007, he also held the following positions, Chairman, Imo State House of Assembly Committee on 1999-2001 Public Petition/Anti- Corruption, Chairman, Imo State House of Assembly Committee On Health 2001-2003, Member, Committee on Public Accounts, Member, committee on Local Government and Autonomous Communities.
Dr Ojnika, whose publications include, “The Effect of age on ACA ratio” and “Traumatic mydriasis” was a Lecturer/Consultant, in the Optometry Department of Abia State University Uturu, between 1990 and 1996 and consulting optometrist, Guinness Eye Hospital, Onitsha from 1988 to 1989.
He is a recipient of several awards of honour and merit which include, Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary Club International, Justice of Peace Ministry of Justice, Imo State, Fellow, Nigeria Optometry Association, Ambassador, African Optometry Association, Patron, Anglican Youth Fellowship, Orlu Diocese, Patron, Federation of Orsu LGA Students Association, Distinguished service award – Orsu Local Government Council, Patron Orlu Recreational Club, Patron Orsu L.G.A Towns Development Union.
Hon Dr Geff Ojinike whose legislative agenda include, “To advance the promotion of peace and security, to promote measures to improve the human development index of constituents, to ensure total health coverage for constituent, to promote restructuring of the Nigeria Federation, to promote Youth Entrepreneurship, to advance food production, to promote infrastructural development”, Is a member of many professional corporate and social organizations including but not limited to Member Catholic Men Organization of Nigeria, Chairman Board of Trustees, Carrot Growers Association of Nigeria, Member Board of Trustees Potato Growers Association of Nigeria, Member Board of Trustees Wheat Farmers Association of Nigeria, Member National Walnut Association, Member Community Agricultural Organization, Member Cassava Growers Association, Member Catholic Men Association of Nigeria, Member Catfish Association of Nigeria, Nigeria Optometric Association, International Association of Contact Lens Educators, E (Energy) PARLIAMENT, International Fellowship of Reconciliation Netherlands, Academic Staff Union of Universities.
