– I Will End Insecurity, Industrialize Imo- Achonu*
Imo State Labour Party has kicked off its local government areas Governorship campaign tour, with a grand and colourful opening ceremony at the Chioma Ajunwa Sports Complex, Nguru.
In a superlative and heart-warming outing yesterday the Labour party candidate Senator Athan Achonu, His Deputy, Hon Tony Nwulu, party members and Aboh Mbaise people thronged to the rally to recieve the campaign train of Senator Athan Achonu.
The Aboh Mbaise event marks the commencement of the Labour party Local Government Campaigns in all the 27 LGAs in the state.
In his remarks while welcoming the mammoth crowd of party members, youths, Obidients, support groups and indeed Aboh Mbaise people to the rally, the state chairman of the party, Barr Calllistus Ihejiagwa thanked the good people of Aboh Mbaise for their show of love and commitment to the victory of Senator Athan Achonu in the November 11 election.
He dismissed insinuations and claims of factions and double candidates for the party, declaring that Imo Labour Party has only one candidate whose name is in the INEC website and that candidate is Distinguished Senator Athan Achonu.
The party chairman also said “the party believes just like other well meaning individuals and groups that the people of Mbaise were robbed of a well deserved and popular victory in 2019, hence the decision to start the campaign from there, to let them know that LP feels their pains and will assuage them when elected into office in November.”
In his speech, the chairman of the Labour Party’s state Governorship campaign council and Member representing Owerri Federal Constituency, Hon Tochukwu Okere (TOSKA), reiterated that the state is very much a Labour Party state. He disclosed that all the party’s elected members in the National Assembly are united in strong solidarity and support for the candidacy of Distinguished Senator Achonu and Hon Nwulu.
Hon Okere assured of their commitment to deploy every legitimate arsenal at their disposal to ensure the party wins the coming election. He urged all party members to be worthy Ambassadors of Senator Athan Achonu by “replicating Achonu in all the booths, wards and the local Government”
Distinguished Senator Achonu in his speech expressed profound gratitude to the people of Aboh Mbaise for defying the bad weather to attend the rally.
He decried the overwhelming insecurity in the state which he pointed out has turned the state into a river of blood and arson, assuring that ending the daily massacre of defenceless Imolites and restoring peace, security and tranquility to the state will be his priority agenda upon his Inauguration in January 2024.
According to him ” As a ten year old, I lost my arm fighting for our parents during the war. Today, I have brought out myself to fight for your security, peace and sustainable development of Imo State.”
He reiterated his position to industrialize Imo through establishment of two industrial parks in each zone of the state including a pharmaceutical park in Orlu zone. He also restated his commitment to grant full financial and administrative autonomy to the local government areas as soon as he takes over power, insisting that for real and sustainable growth and development to take place at the rural areas and state as a whole the local government system must be fully functional and alive.
Senator Achonu also used the opportunity to refute the allegation that he is being SPONSORED by the governor.
He wondered how Gov Uzodinma could be sponsoring someone like him, who for the past thirty years has been investing and providing employment for thousands of Imo citizens.
Noting that the whole blackmail against him was motivated by morbid fear of his towering antecedents, the governorship candidate made it clear that nothing will deter him from his determined march to take back the state from the abyss of misgovernance, back to the path of glory.
Earlier,, the campaign train stopped briefly at the Labour Party Secretariat in Aboh Mbaise where the Local Government Executive and the cordinators recieved the campaign train.
At The Palace of HRH EZE R.A AMADI. OBO I OF OBETITI NGURU AUT. COMMUNITY ABOH MBAISE – Senator Athan Achonu paid a courtesy call to inform the traditional ruler of his governorship campaign and to ask for his royal blessings. The traditional ruler prayed for him and wished him well.
