Siminalayi Fubara got a big leap against his political enemies on Thursday when he was pronounced duly elected by the Supreme Court, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), after the March 18 governorship election in Rivers State.

Fubara, who has been under immense political attack from Nyesom Wike, his predecessor, who is believed to have helped him to power, and the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), defeated Tonye Cole of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election.

Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, leading a five-man panel of the apex court, which upheld the verdicts of the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal and that of the Court of Appeal, in unanimous judgment on Thursday, a five-member panel of the court held that the appeal by, had declared the appeal of Cole as unmeritorious.

In the lead judgment, the court, which resolved all the four issues identified for determination in the appeal against the Fubara, held that Cole and the APC failed to prove their case with sufficient evidence and therefore dismissed the appeal, ending the speculation that the governor might be facing the exit door soon.
