Nigeria Watchdog Newspaper Reporter, Dorcas Samson Achi on 24th of March, 2024 launched her first literary book titled “The Survivor” and unveiled her Foundation for Women And Girl Child. 

The intellectual event which was held at the Gold Crown Hotel Resort and Suites , Owerri had in attendance dignitaries of honour, academics, Stakeholders and reputable Personalities in Business, Politics, Religious and corporate organizations, Non Governmental organizations (NGOs), friends and family members of the author. 

The author in her welcome address appreciated everyone who contributed sparingly or abundantly to ensure the success of the program. 

Her words ” The Survivor” addresses the circumstances surrounding the girl child in the streets of Nigeria. It is a young teenage girl’s aspirations and experiences in different parts of Nigeria while seeking a better life in the midst of overwhelming risks and as well reveals the unfortunate economic, hazardous and unstable situation of our dear country as it affects the ordinary people. 

“The Survivor exposes dreams, potentials, talents, visions, passions of those street girls, maids, low lives, ranks and files in Nigeria which overtime have been maimed, butchered, and buried without any support.

“Many people think “The Survivor” is about rape, domestic violence, abuse and all that but I think we have been raped, violated and abused enough with constant denial of our rights, social amenities and basic needs of life as Nigerian citizens”. 

Talking about her Foundation for Women And Girl Child, Dorcas emphasized that the need to raise a progressive women of dignity and integrity who shall live their dreams and achieve their potentials without reservations is what inspired her foundation, adding that women can make extraordinary strides when they are equipped intellectually, socially, morally and economically, to exploit their Time, their Right and Future.

 According to her, Dorcas Foundation is about helping the young girls find their footings and despite gender inequities across industries, be able to consistently forge ahead, shattering glass ceilings. 

In his opening remarks, Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Francis Dike (SAN), a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Imo State, said the book, “The Survivor”, mirrors the social ills and economic hardships experienced in the country.

He pointed out that the novel is not merely an academic exercise, but a story told to reflect what obtains in the society, saying he was enthused by the contents of the literary piece, praising the author, Dorcas Achi, for ex-raying morality and economic crunch in the society through the literary piece.

Reviewing the book, Prof. Protus Uzoma, explained that the book is written in pages and chapters and focuses on true values of reason for progressive existence.

“The author uses the book to teach youths how to survive in life without compromise . It is a message of hope. Patience, determination, hard work and fear of God.

“It is a must read for everyone because it is our story. It is a refined, authentic, and an excellent literary piece which affects everyone of us directly or indirectly” Prof. Uzorma inferred. 

Hon. Ernest Njesi, the Director General (DG) Grassroot Development Forum (GDF) who represented Hon. Barr. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the Rep. Member representing Ideato North and South Federal constituency and House Committee Chairman, Petroleum Resources (Downstream) while speaking at the event, commended the efforts and courage the young author exhibited in x-raying the pathetic situation of the country especially the challenges faced by the youths in their quest for education, empowerment, employment and enabling environment. 

The Chief Launcher, Chief Kingsley Ozurumba Okehie, an Industrialist and the Apex Leader of the Labour Party in Orlu LGA was ably represented by Comrade Richard Uzochukwu who congratulated the young author and charged her to continue contributing towards sanitizing the society through her literary works.

Hon. CaniceMoore Nwachukwu, the House of Rep Member representing Orlu, Orsu and Oru East Federal constituency who was ably represented by Pastor Peter Nnadozie Dibia, a journalist and his Special Adviser on Media, applauded the author for taking a bold step in addressing certain issues relating to girl child and women, wishing her well in her vision to advance the course of women and Girl Child.

HRH Eze John Nwosu, KSM, Ezeidinoba Ojiudo of Isiokwu-Ihioma, Ihioma Autonomous Community in Orlu LGA who was present at the event congratulated the young author, wishing her greater exploits in all her endeavours. 

Mrs. Juliet Obiageri Okeiyi, the Executive Director of Open Arms Initiative who officially unveiled the Dorcas Foundation For Women And Girl Child, highlighted some of the challenges of running a foundation for Women but tasked the founder to be focused, unwavering, committed and passionate about the course of women. She emphasized on the need for the founder to develop the needed capacity to handle a lofty and tasking project as this. 

The climax of the occasion was the launching of “The Survivor” which every guest fully participated in.

The author while expressing gratitude, emphasized that the huge financial donations made by all those who graced the occasion is an encouragement, a motivation and a great support which have further fueled her vision for advancing the course of Women And Girl Child. 

Other dignitaries at the occasion were Hon. Edith Nwosu (Ikuku Oma), the Labour Party Candidate for Nwangele Constituency; the Cock of the Bar, Chief Barr. Emeka Mgbenwelu (Dumdum), represented by Barr. Dike, Harriet Ijeomah, Initiator, EveryGirls Movement, Comrade Marjorie Ezihe-Osoha, the Executive Coordinator, Sisters With A Goal Initiative (SWAG) and many others.
