-Promises Purposeful Leadership for FOMIHA

Former Members of Imo State House Of Assembly (FOMIHA) on Saturday, March,16, 2024 conducted a free, fair and credible election which saw Hon. Ugochukwu Nzekwe, former Member representing Nkwerre State Constituency at the Imo State House of Assembly, emerging as the new Chairman of the association in a landslide victory. 

The election was very credible and had full participation of many past Imo lawmakers who voted for their candidates peacefully without rancour and acrimony. 

After the election, Hon. Ugochukwu Nzekwe emerged the Chairman of the union with a total of 49 votes, to defeat his opponent, Hon. Innocent Onwuemenyi who had 29votes, Hon. Dr. Barr. Ifeanyi Agwu, emerged as the Vice Chairman with a total of 50 votes while his opponent, Hon. Innocent Ekeh had 17votes. Hon. Nkenna Nzeruo and Hon. Gozie Nwachukwu were returned unopposed as Treasurer and Secretary, respectively. Hon. Marcel Odunze, emerged as the Financial Secretary, Hon. Larry Ajaero, the Public Relations Officer, (PRO), Hon. Chris Okorogu, the Provost and Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, the Organising Secretary of the association.

The new executive members immediately took their oaths of office. They pledged to be just, equitable, fair, transparent and dedicated in the discharge of their duties. 

The Chairman, in his acceptance speech, expressed gratitude to the group for believing in him and ensuring that credibility and competence prevail. He pledged to carry out his duties and responsibilities as the Chairman of FOMIHA without leaving any stone unturned.

While addressing the press, the Chairman highlighted some of the essence of the association, pointing that four or eight years in office as elected lawmakers gives them knowledge and experience which should not be wasted but utilized in advisory functions and in helping new Lawmakers and even the executive for the growth and development of the state. 

According to him, as a pressure group, they can influence the government and its policies. He stated that they are committed to improving the state, using their expertise, accumulated experiences and leadership prowess in different fields. 

Hon. Nzekwe emphasized that the group is going to start thinking of the security and welfare of her members, adding that FOMIHA is going to be a platform for the past Lawmakers to be rejuvenated, refreshed and be able to contribute their quota to the State and nation as a whole. 

He further revealed that their office will serve as a Chamber where important issues shall be addressed as there are many things Imolites can benefit from them. 

His words, “Government is changing. Whatever we are doing shall benefit the state. We are coming together to help our state. We cannot throw our experiences away when there are many things we can contribute for the advancement of our beloved state. 

Among the past Lawmakers who voted were Hon. Goodluck Nanah Opiah, former Federal Minister of Education, Rt. Hon. Chuka Nnaji, Former Deputy Speaker, IMHA, Rt. Hon. Chiji Collins, former Speaker, IMHA and many others.
