The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) has rescheduled the state’s Local Government Council elections for Saturday, November 7, 2026.
The commission made this known in a press release signed by its Chairman, Chief Charles Ejlogu, JP, and dated October 5, 2026.
According to the statement, the decision followed the commission’s earlier announcement on September 23, 2026, postponing the council elections originally scheduled for September 26, 2026.
ISIEC said the new date was fixed after a series of consultations with the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Imo State Chapter.
The commission also disclosed that the date for an expanded stakeholders’ meeting, where its amended Time Table and Electoral Guidelines arising from the postponement would be released, would be announced soon.
ISIEC expressed regret the inconveniences caused by the postponement, particularly to chairmanship and councillorship candidates and the general public.
The commission, however, assured stakeholders of its commitment to conducting a peaceful, transparent and credible Local Government Council election.
It appealed for the understanding and support of all critical stakeholders as preparations continue for the November 7 poll.
