The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) has invited the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State Council, and other stakeholders to a meeting ahead of the 2026 Local Government Council elections in the state.

The meeting, according to an invitation letter dated October 26, 2026, is scheduled to hold on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Rockview Hotel, Owerri, by 2:00 p.m.

The letter, addressed to the Chairman of NUJ, Imo State Council, Owerri, stated that the meeting was being organised to engage stakeholders as preparations gather momentum for the forthcoming local government elections.

ISIEC said the presence of the invited stakeholders would be highly appreciated, underscoring the importance of their participation in the electoral process.

The invitation was signed by the Chairman of ISIEC, Chief Charles Ejiogu, JP, on behalf of the commission.

The meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for engagement between the electoral body and relevant stakeholders on issues concerning the conduct of the 2026 Local Government Council elections.

The invitation to the NUJ is particularly significant, given the media’s role in public enlightenment, dissemination of electoral information and promotion of transparency, accountability and credible elections.

However, the invitation letter did not provide further details on the specific agenda or other stakeholders expected to attend the meeting.
