The Orluzurumee Socio-Cultural Organization Worldwide has announced plans to organise an interactive engagement with candidates contesting various political positions ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The initiative, according to the organisation, is aimed at providing members of the Orlu community with an opportunity to hear directly from candidates, examine their programmes and ask questions before making their choices at the polls.
In a statement by the Publicity Secretary of Orluzurumee, Nnamdi Cos-Ukwuoma, the organisation said the engagement would provide a balanced and structured platform for candidates from different political parties to present their manifestos, programmes, visions and specific plans for the Orlu Zone.
The candidates would also be expected to respond to questions from a committee comprising professionals, respected community leaders and other key stakeholders from the zone.
Orluzurumee stressed that the initiative was non-partisan and should not be interpreted as an endorsement of any political party or candidate.
According to the organisation, the objective is to promote fairness, accountability, informed citizenship and responsible leadership by enabling members of the community to listen to, scrutinise and compare the candidates and their proposals.
The statement said the initiative was founded on the principle that members of the community should have adequate opportunity to understand and question those seeking their votes before making electoral decisions.
Orluzurumee urged its leadership and members to support the initiative to ensure that the proposed interactive sessions are conducted in a credible, transparent and balanced manner.
The organisation said further details concerning the dates, venue, participating candidates and modalities for the interactive sessions would be announced shortly.
The initiative is being promoted under the slogan: “Orluzurumee — Empowering the People to Know Before They Choose.”
