–Calls Former Rivers Governor A “Loafer” And Questions His Suitability For 2027 Vice-Presidential Bid
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a swipe at former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, over his reported statement concerning his inability to afford medications for his late mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi, during her treatment.
In a statement issued over the weekend, and signed by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, CON, the party described Amaechi as a “loafer” outside public office while questioning his capacity to hold further public office.
The APC, however, began the statement by praying for the repose of the soul of Amaechi’s mother and wishing the former governor “excellent health of mind and body.”
Amaechi, a former two-term Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term governor of Rivers State and former Minister of Transportation, is currently the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Reacting to his reported claim that he could not afford medications for his mother, the APC said it was ironic that a politician who had occupied several senior public offices could now claim financial difficulty after leaving government.
The party also referred to an earlier statement allegedly made by Amaechi that he had become financially constrained to the point where his wife was feeding him.
According to the APC, Amaechi’s statements raised questions about his ability to remain financially productive outside public office.
“For four decades, Rotimi Amaechi freeloaded at the highest levels of public office,” the party alleged, adding that he had never lacked the resources to provide for himself and his family while in government.
The APC further alleged that Amaechi had become financially distressed only a few years after leaving public office, describing him as “aimless and irresponsible” and accusing him of being dependent on government patronage.
The party also criticised Amaechi’s ambition to become Vice President of Nigeria in 2027, arguing that the presidency should not be used as a means of providing personal financial support.
“The presidency is not a soup kitchen and will not be a soup kitchen for Rotimi Amaechi,” the APC stated.
It added that Amaechi’s own public comments, in its view, had raised questions about his suitability for the office of Vice President.
The APC concluded by reiterating its criticism of the former governor and his political ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement was signed by Felix Morka, CON, National Publicity Secretary of the APC, in Abuja on October 4, 2026.
