The Imo State Chapter of Labour Party yesterday held a successful Congress across the 305 wards of Imo state.

The Congress which was supervised by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC inline with the provisions of the new Electoral Act began by 10Am as proposed by the Management Committee.

Our reporters who observed the processes at different locations described the exercise as highly transparent.

Some party stalwarts who spoke to this Reporter commended the party leadership in the state and national executive for the rancour free Congress while also praying and wishing that they replicate same during the governorship primary election slated Saturday April 15,2023.

One of the party chieftains, Dr Clifford Osunkwo said, “it is obvious that Imo beckons on Labour Party. We want the leadership to give the governorship ticket to a credible candidate who will not derail the vision and mission of Mr Peter Obi”.

Others who spoke in the same vein, hailed the National Vice Chairman, South East, Chief Innocent Okeke for his ingenuity in addressing issues as they arose, adding that his exemplary leadership is part of the reason the party won so many positions in Imo.

They commended the Prof Ukachukwu Awuize led Management Committee that came up with the template that is now adjudged to be the master stroke, and a departure from the old order that monetized every electoral process in Nigeria and made it a game for the highest bidder.
