– Insists equity favours Ngor Okpala
Former member of the House of Representatives for Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala federal constituency (1999-2023), Chief Greg C. Egu has picked the Nomination and Expression of Interest Forms of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the Imo East (Owerri Zone) senatorial election in 2027.
Hon. Egu who spoke to our correspondent Wednesday stated that he collected the form as a confirmation of his decision and determination to contest the seat on the platform form of the PDP in the next general elections.
He explained that his decision to join the race is to provide responsible leadership through effective representation given his pedigree, wealth of experience and stature in both state and national politics.
The Umuohiagu-born frontline politician who asserted that the Senate is for matured minds, maintained that 2027 is and should be the turn of Ngor Okpala to produce the senator for Owerri Zone, since other political blocs had taken previous slots.
Uncle Greg, as he is fondly called by friends and admirers urged the political class in Imo East (Owerri) Senatorial Zone to support Ngor Okpala political bloc to produce the next senator in line with the spirit of the Imo Charter of Equity, as it applies to the zone.
His words, “The Elders of Owerri Zone, who are part of the drafting and adoption of the Imo Charter of Equity should apply the charter in Owerri Zone senate slot to ensure justice and equity. Let all the political parties produce their senatorial candidates from Ngor Okpala LGA. It’s that internal application of the principles of equity that will give credence and justify Owerri Zone’s demand for equity at the governorship.”
Egu further explained that his ambition is not to undermine anyone else’s senate bid but to boost the chances of Ngor Okpala and Owerri Zone in producing a truly distinguished senator in 2027 that will serve the people’s interests, yearnings and aspirations.
